IPP offers various types of extrusion coating that improve the barrier properties of paper and cartonboard. During the extrusion process, a thin layer of coating is applied that makes the material grease- and moisture-resistant, sealable, stronger or, for example, heat-resistant.

More sustainable alternatives

Instead of PE or PET extrusion, a more environmentally friendly alternative can be used. PLA and Green PE are plastics made from renewable raw materials, such as cane sugar or corn. This method of extrusion provides properties similar to those of conventional plastics.
A dispersion coating can also be applied. This creates barrier properties using water-based dispersion technology and contains fewer microplastics. This option is often chosen by companies that want to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels and thus reduce their ecological footprint. It also helps them achieve their sustainability goals.

There are many initiatives to make coatings more environmentally friendly by producing them from natural, renewable raw materials. The starting point here is that they meet the same needs as the plastic counterpart and have similar properties. IPP closely monitors these developments and is committed to introducing revolutionary solutions to the market on a large scale. An example of this is our polyester-free cardboard OnBoard.
