Lamination

Functional and visual enhancement

Lamination involves joining multiple layers of material into one. By laminating paper, cartonboard or film, you can add desired properties to the substrate, such as moisture and grease resistance, freezer or heat resistance, or tear resistance. There are also decorative laminates, such as gold, silver, hologram, matt and textured, which, in addition to their extra functionality, contribute to the high-quality appearance of packaging. Lamination is not only done with a very thin layer of plastic or metal. Combinations of paper and cardboard can also be laminated. The same applies to doubling cartonboard to create a final product that is twice as thick/strong.

There are two techniques for laminating: thermal lamination and water-based adhesive. Thermal lamination uses a film with an adhesive layer already applied. The laminating machine heats the film, causing the adhesive to melt and stick to the substrate. In water-based lamination, the adhesive is applied to the laminate before it can be laminated onto the substrate. There are various types of adhesives, each with specific properties. We determine the type of adhesive depending on the application and the materials to be laminated.

IPP offers various types of laminate. In addition to PE laminate, BOPE laminate and PET laminate, there is aluminium foil laminate that makes the material heat-resistant and impermeable to air and light. A metallised laminate has excellent barrier properties and adds significant visual value when creating attractive, creative and luxurious packaging. We also sell susceptor foil, which absorbs microwave radiation and converts it into heat.
